Podcast #17: Mental Health - Make yourself a fixed date in everyday life
Mental health: something that has become increasingly important, especially in recent years and months. Because the pandemic, the war, the financial and energy crisis are putting a strain on our psyche. What's more, our everyday lives are becoming increasingly fast-paced and we are experiencing world events in live ticker mode via social media platforms. Negative headlines usually dominate. How do you manage to stay centred and give your needs enough space? We got to the bottom of this important question with Barbara Szabo in the new podcast episode. The health scientist teaches health management and health promotion in our bachelor's programme and is herself a graduate of FH Burgenland.

We very often associate the term 'me-time' with activities in which we passively lean back. This can be good for the soul to a certain extent, but it is not enough. That's why I prefer to talk about self-care. This term conveys very well how important it is to actively look after yourself.

So we need to do more for our mental health than just escape the daily stress on our annual holiday. Holistic health promotion means setting personal boundaries, getting rid of unhealthy habits and time wasters, regularly reflecting on your behaviour and integrating activities that are good for you into your everyday life. In the new podcast episode, you can find out how to do this and which tools help to strengthen your own mental health.
Behind-the-scenes

The podcast was recorded by Bianca Nastl, a member of the marketing department at Burgenland University of Applied Sciences and a graduate of the university herself: "Fortunately, mental health is increasingly taking centre stage in society. This is particularly noticeable in the younger generations - of which I count myself as one. And although I would describe myself as a conscious and mindful person, I often find it difficult to prioritise myself. That's why I'm in the process of learning how to set healthy boundaries and say no sometimes."
Barbara Szabo is not only a lecturer at FH Burgenland, but also runs a podcast herself entitled "Healthy me, Healthy us, Healthy world"on the topic of health and well-being.
The podcast can be found on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and other popular platforms.
