In our 20th podcast episode, we invited Gregory Rorrer, U.S. guest lecturer in our Department of Energy & Environment, to stand in front of our microphone.

The podcast can be found on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and other popular platforms. You can also find our other podcast episodes on our website under the tab "Podcast".

He has professional expertise that stretches all the way to the White House and is a Professor of Chemical Engineering at the School of Chemical, Biological, and Environmental Engineering at Oregon State University. And now FH Burgenland will also have a place on his CV. For one semester, the researcher and respected lecturer Gregory Rorrer supported us in teaching and research in the Department of Energy & Environment at the Pinkafeld Campus.

One thing Austrians could learn from Americans is that they are willing to take more risks in life.

Gregory Rorrer, Fulbright Professor at the University of Applied Sciences Burgenland

From his favourite wine bar in Pinkafeld, called Vino en Paso, to the hand-painted turkey our students gave the U.S. lecturer for Thanksgiving: In this interview, Gregory provides insights into his experience as an international guest lecturer in the very depth of Burgenland and discusses the differences between American and Austrian students.

His personal recommendation to all future Fulbright guest lecturers: "If you teach here at the Pinkafeld campus, live in Pinkafeld as well. Because you will have a very special experience compared to living in a big city like Vienna." And if you as a student of the FH Burgenland are interested in studying in the USA, please contact our International Office for more information.

Behind-the-scenes

The podcast was recorded by Gerhard Piringer, university lecturer in our Energy & Environment Department: "Gregory thinks a lot about how to make the energy industry more sustainable and climate-friendly in Austria and in the USA. I am really impressed by his process engineering expertise and his wealth of experience: a professional exchange at such level is a great enrichment for us at FH Burgenland. But Gregory is not only a really good scientist and teacher; during his time here in Pinkafeld I have also come to appreciate him as a person, whether during the curling class our association 'FH Burgenland Sport und Gesundheit' organised or when playing soccer and having a nice get-together afterwards."
