Master's degree programme European Studies - Management of EU Projects
The master’s programme “European Studies – Management of EU Projects” at the University of Applied Sciences is open to anyone who has completed a course of at least three years at a recognised tertiary institute of higher education in Austria or abroad (at least 180 ECTS).

Twenty-eight candidates are accepted on the University of Applied Sciences study programme European Studies – Management of EU Projects every year.
Registration deadline: 31 May
You want to know as soon as possible if you will get accepted at our university? Then apply no later than 31 March! We assign the first study slots as early as the first weeks of April.
Registrations for the University of Applied Sciences study programme European Studies – Management of European Projects received by the given deadline will be considered for the next academic year. Candidates may register online.
A prerequisite for participation in the admission procedure is completion of all the registration requirements by the given deadline. A pre-selection takes place based on the documents provided. Candidates will be informed in good time about the date of the interview. Dates for interviews 2024 (pdf)
The personal interview consists of three parts:
Part A of the admission procedure consists of a five-minute Power-Point presentation about the candidate’s previous education, professional experience, additional qualifications, reasons for applying for the study programme and any other issues the candidate considers to be important.
Part B consists of research and a five-minute Power-Point presentation on a current topic about the European Union selected by the candidate.
Part C covers general knowledge about the European Union, concentrating on the topic chosen for the presentation. Moreover we want to get to know you, your skills, competences and your reasons for applying for the study programme.
If the candidate does not attend the interview without a good reason, the candidate will be excluded from the admission procedure.
Candidates are evaluated, ranked and informed in writing about their application.
Candidates who are not offered a firm place are put on a waiting list and move up the list if other candidates decide to drop out. Late registrations will only be considered if there are places available.
After the binding allocation of a place, University of Applied Sciences Burgenland collects a deposit of € 350 from students to secure their place. This deposit is refunded to active students after the end of the first semester. If an applicant does not fulfil the admission requirements before the start of the programme (e.g. did not pass the resit of the school-leaving examination, did not pass the additional qualification examination, etc.), the deposit is also refunded. In all other cases, the deposit is forfeited.
For applicants with certificates from third countries (i.e. all countries except the member states of the EEA/EU and Switzerland) without EU visa facilitation agreements the application deadline for the study programme starting in September ends on 15 March of the same year. This should give you sufficient time to apply for the required residence permit and/or visa and to obtain any missing documents and certifications.
A special feature of the study programme is its interdisciplinary and international orientation, which opens doors to a wide variety of professional opportunities in an EU context. On the one hand, you will be immersed in political science and legal perspectives of the EU. On the other hand, you will build your skills in EU project management as well as in intercultural management and communication. Depending on your plans for the future, you can specialise in either EU Politics or EU Project Management in the third semester.
Study trips to the EU institutions in Brussels as well as to another EU member state or to a candidate country from Central and Eastern Europe will make the European Union "tangible" for you.
The study programme offers a successful combination of theoretical content and expertise. In the course of the programme you have the opportunity to get certified in International Project Management (Certified Junior Project Manager according to IPMA Level D).
What also makes this Master's programme special is the expert teaching staff: a mixture of practitioners and university professors, most of them with an international background. Some of the lecturers work in EU institutions in Brussels, others work in top positions in the administration or government, such as minister's offices or in regional governments. Partners of well-known law firms, as well as top-notch project managers, university professors of economics, political science and communication are all among the lecturers and provide the theoretical background. Apart from that, we bring current EU topics into the study programme by inviting guest lecturers.
Holders of a Master’s degree in European Studies are prepared to take on leading positions in EU institutions and in a variety of other professional settings.
