Eisenstadt, the baroque city on the sunny southern slopes of the Leitha Mountains, is Austria's youngest provincial capital with over 14,800 inhabitants. Eisenstadt can boast of being the home of famous personalities such as the composer Joseph Haydn and the Esterházy princes.
Eisenstadt and its surroundings offer a wide range of leisure activities, e.g. castle park, Haydn Conservatory, outdoor pool, indoor pool, ice skating rink, tennis courts, fitness centres and many other facilities for sporting and cultural activities. Lake Neusiedl, the largest steppe lake in Europe and known above all as a recreational and nature reserve, is ideal for surfing, swimming and ice skating and can be reached in just 15 minutes from Eisenstadt.
A young and lively event scene enriches student life, especially in the summer months. The Novarock Festival in Nickelsdorf, the Lovely Days Wiesen as well as the Lake Festival Mörbisch or the Opera Festival St. Margarethen offer variety and fun.
