In many places, it is no longer really dark at night - the countless light sources in cities are shining ever brighter. Researchers refer to this form of environmental pollution as ‘light pollution’. This not only has a negative impact on the visibility of the stars, but above all on flora and fauna as well as human health. The phenomenon is constantly on the increase and is not just an urban issue, but is penetrating ever further into dark regions and protected natural areas. The lecture will discuss why light pollution is an urgent issue, what its consequences are, what the global and national situation is and what measures everyone can take to curb it.

Where does humour end? Where does sexism begin in the workplace and at university?
On the occasion of International Women's Day, this time it will be ‘Pleasant’ - the new solo programme by feminist cabaret artist Antonia Stabinger is coming to Burgenland University of Applied Sciences! The character Clit/Doris, the talking genital, will be making a guest appearance.
In the audience discussion, we will address the following questions: What is humour allowed at university and in the workplace? And where does sexism begin?
Afterwards, the Department for Women, Anti-Discrimination and Equal Treatment (Office of the Burgenland Provincial Government) and the University of Applied Sciences Burgenland invite you to an exchange over snacks and wine. Let's have a laugh!
‘Antonia Stabinger has established herself as one of the most interesting cabaret voices with her mixture of absurd humour, keen powers of observation and a passion for socially critical, sensitive topics. Her solo debut ‘Angenehm’ consolidates this position.’ (News)
The event is aimed at all interested parties.

Which activities have you really done consciously today? Which activities did you give your full attention to? How consciously did you perceive yourself and your surroundings today? Did you look closely, listen, feel?
Many of us are in autopilot mode for the majority of the day. Many actions happen automatically. This can be helpful in certain situations and for certain activities. However, it drains our energy in the long term if we are always doing things ‘on the side’, thinking or perhaps worrying about this or that ‘in between’ and possibly already thinking about the future - after work, on holiday, in retirement.
In this keynote speech, you will learn about the power of mindfulness. You will learn what mindfulness actually is and what opportunities there are to practise mindfulness. You will learn about methods that will help you to experience everyday life more consciously and mindfully.

How much excitement or outrage is beneficial to a cause and when does the harm outweigh the benefit?
On the positive side, outrage can be seen as an expression of civic engagement and political interest. Excitement can lead to uncovering grievances and initiating change. On the other hand, this excitement can lead to polarisation, intolerance and an intensification of conflicts within society and the economy.
In short: How much excitement or outrage is beneficial to a cause and when does the harm outweigh the benefit?
