From chatbot to colleague: what the next stage of AI use will really change
91 per cent of students and 88 per cent of teachers use AI. Most of them, however, use it like a telephone: ask a question, get an answer, close the window.
But where AI is today, the real work is just beginning. Connectors link ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini with your own files, emails and notes. Skills allow AI to perform recurring tasks with consistent quality. Agents work on jobs without anyone having to sit in front of a screen. Much of this has only become available in the last few months, some of it doesn't cost a cent extra, and all of it changes what we have learnt about good prompting so far.
This Open Lecture takes up four strands: where you are right now and what the next step can look like - regardless of whether you use AI occasionally or every day; how prompting has changed and why shorter instructions often work better today than sophisticated prompt templates; why the individual productivity gains are not yet reflected in the balance sheets of many companies; and what it means when individuals work 40 per cent faster, but hardly anything changes in the overall result. Research has three surprising answers to these questions - and educational institutions in particular have a lever at their disposal that other sectors do not have.
The lecture will be accompanied by short practical examples from our own day-to-day work in which the tools mentioned can be seen in action.
The Open Lecture is aimed at teachers, students and alumni who already use AI in practice, as well as anyone looking for an overview beyond the headlines.
