Daniel Erlacher was already interested in technology as a boy and eagerly endeavoured to repair broken toys himself.

"Of course, there were no circuits back then," he emphasises with a grin. But his contact with the first computers and computer games awakened his enthusiasm for electronics and information technology.

After completing his HTL training, Daniel Erlacher started his career as an electrical engineering planner and finally at the former Bewag - now Energie Burgenland. "I started there as a project technician, but word quickly got around that I was also a good contact for IT problems."

He began to take an interest in studying a few years ago. At the age of 30, he decided - under the motto "now or never" - to enrol on the IT Infrastructure Management bachelor's degree programme at Burgenland University of Applied Sciences. He has now completed his degree and, looking back, is very happy with his decision.

The programme really covered everything I expected. I was able to implement an incredible amount in the company - from process management to IT topics.

For his bachelor's thesis, he chose a topic that is also very present in his everyday work - the potential of smart meters in terms of grid stability.

He is taking his motivation to study straight into the next degree programme at the Burgenland University of Applied Sciences, the Master's in Sustainable Energy Systems. "The organisation at the weekends is unique. The programme is very practice-oriented," he concludes. We wish him continued success.
