Creative communication talent
Since winter 2024, Lena Sagmeister has been providing information on everything there is to know about the wide range of study programmes on offer - always full of vigour, smiling and friendly.
Her good humour is not feigned and in her charming manner she elicits the odd amusing anecdote from lecturers during interviews. How did Lena get this job as a social media manager? "Creativity runs in our family. We've always done a lot of arts and crafts. At the same time, I was already interested in communication as a schoolgirl, which is why I chose the Rhetoric and Communication programme at Wimmergymnasium Oberschützen," she explains.
The plan was actually to combine these two aspects and become a teacher. The epiphany came when the South Burgenland native walked past a large advertising wall in Vienna. She realised that this was what she wanted to do for a living.
She completed a Bachelor's degree in Information, Media and Communication and then a Master's degree in Digital Media and Communication at the Burgenland University of Applied Sciences. "As a child from the countryside, I didn't want to go to Vienna. Eisenstadt seemed ideal to me and the degree programmes anyway."
What she particularly appreciated about the Bachelor's degree programme was the variety: "The course is very broad in terms of content and it gave me the confidence to know that I was well trained for a range of different jobs." After her compulsory internship at REDUCE Gesundheitsresort Bad Tatzmannsdorf, she received a permanent offer as part of the marketing department and studied part-time for her Master's degree. "I was lucky that at the age of 20 I already had the confirmation that I was doing exactly what I wanted to do professionally."
She has always felt a strong connection to Burgenland University of Applied Sciences. "I was really sad when I thought I wouldn't be coming back here after my Master's exam," says Lena. But fate had other plans and Lena has since joined the university's Marketing & Communication department.

What I like about my job is that it is so varied. I'm constantly dealing with other exciting topics from the various degree programmes. It's impossible to get bored.

Her creativity is highly valued in the team. "I have the freedom to try out lots of things and can test out my manual skills."
