Igniting the Spark
And yes, there are questions. She has answered hundreds, if not thousands, of phone calls and emails in her first year on the job, supporting just as many prospective students on their way to university.
She herself completed the Bachelor's degree programme in International Economic Relations at UAS Burgenland. She was inspired to do so by an information event held by UAS Burgenland at her former school, BORG Jennersdorf.

That’s when the spark really ignited for me, and now, during my school visits, at fairs and information days, I try to ignite the same spark in others.
Lena Tauchner, Employee of UAS Burgenland
A business-related bachelor’s degree without any prior knowledge of business administration was challenging but achievable, she says. She found subjects like logistics and procurement particularly interesting, and she completed her internship in this field.
During her studies, she also worked as a tutor in prospective student marketing at the university, attending fairs and visiting schools in person. After completing her studies, she applied for a vacancy and has been a permanent member of the team since autumn 2023.
What others might find exhausting is exactly what Lena loves: “It doesn’t bother me at all to be on the road. I enjoy the interaction with students and prospective students, and it makes me a little proud every time I see their names on the course registration lists or meet them on campus as students.”
I know how overwhelming the variety of educational opportunities can be. It’s important to me to do something meaningful with my career, and I’m happy when I can help young people find a new and good path. After all, it was a school visit by UAS Burgenland that sparked my interest in the degree programme

Looking back on her studies, project management is the subject that she finds most useful in her current role. The structured and analytical approach to her projects – such as information sessions, fairs, and events – helps her keep track of everything during stressful times.
The summer college – a three-week language course in Croatia – also stands out as a fond memory from her time as a student, which largely took place during the COVID-19 lockdown. Her fellow students from that time have become friends for life.
What is she looking forward to in the near future? “In the coming weeks, we’ll be representing UAS Burgenland at education fairs in Romania, Slovakia, and Hungary. That’s going to be an absolute highlight.” Lena will undoubtedly ignite the spark in many others during these events as well.
