"He was responsible for the district heating network in my home town in Burgenland and I remember that I was allowed to stay home from kindergarten to watch the work," Schubaschitz recalls. After graduating from HTL Pinkafeld, he was given the tip by a professor to study building technology at the Burgenland University of Applied Sciences.
"That appealed to me in a number of ways. Among other things, because I realised when I started my career that top employees and managers come from Pinkafeld." Since 1994, Pinkafeld has been regarded as THE Austrian centre for building technology, which is also known beyond the country's borders. When Michael Schubaschitz completed his Master's degree in Lucerne (CH), the Pinkafeld management centre became a household name there too.
He specialised in the field of industrial energy technology during his studies and opened an engineering office for thermal energy technology(www.thermolink.at) in January. "It's all about industrial energy optimisation. My customers come from all branches of industry, for example from the food, plastics and metal sectors." The expert carries out pinch analyses to determine the potential for energy, CO2 and cost reductions for companies and derive specific measures from this.
He also works in the field of district heating and cooling at EVN. "Energy suppliers will have an even greater interface function in the future, when buildings increasingly develop from pure energy consumers to energy producers."

As a graduate, Michael Schubaschitz greatly appreciates the knowledge gained during his studies, as he is convinced that "the future holds great challenges for the sector". "We are already familiar with buildings as electricity producers, for example using photovoltaics. Now we have to transfer the challenges of the energy transition to other areas, such as heating. Buildings that are networked will be the future. Experts are in high demand."
