Eveline rocks at the construction site
Perhaps precisely because her path to becoming an engineer was not a straightforward one. “I’m an absolute career changer,” she explains. After finishing a general secondary school with a focus on sports, she graduated from fashion school and worked as a tailor and dressmaker. Unhappy in her job, she became more and more interested in the training programme at an upper secondary technical school that her younger brother completed. “I increasingly wanted to build houses myself and be involved in the planning process.”
No sooner said than done: Eveline completed a post-secondary VET course in facility management at HTL Pinkafeld and started working in a planning office led by an architect at the same time as her brother. “I then plucked up all my courage and applied for the Bachelor’s Degree Programme in Building and Energy Technology at University of Applied Sciences Burgenland. I just wanted to give it a go. It was the best decision!”
“Of course, there were some things I hadn’t known before, but it was manageable. We got together in learning groups at the weekends, in small teams where everyone could contribute their own strengths.” When asked what her strength is, she replies: “I’m quite good at leading a team. I’m good at assessing people.”
She also radiates good humour and harmony in her job at VAMED in hospital management and administration. Here she is involved in the planning of construction sites and especially loves the on-site appointments. “I love being on the construction site, looking at the current situation and adapting my plans. I work as a project manager on small and large projects. It’s very varied and cool.“
She advises young women to simply try out technical professions. “Men are also happy when women work in the industry. I haven’t had any negative experiences so far.”
Eveline is now continuing her studies in the Master’s Degree Programme in Building Technology and Management at University of Applied Sciences Burgenland.
