WomenCourage symposium - A look back

The project "Against female poverty in Burgenland - career and life prospects for women in Burgenland", funded by the European Social Fund and the Office of the Burgenland Provincial Government, aims to identify and visualise regional conditions, existing resources and potential in the regions.

 

The project was launched in September 2018, runs until February 2020 and has now reached its actual climax with the symposium "FrauenMut - Lebenserfahrungen, Forschungsergebnisse und regionale Faktoren".

 

A project in three acts - the foundation for networking

The project was launched with an online survey in November 2018 to investigate various aspects of "Career and life prospects for women in Burgenland". The questions were derived from the numerous existing studies on the situation of women in Burgenland.

This was followed by four focus groups for in-depth discussion of the results with regional experts. The knowledge identified and gained through the regional needs and opportunities will now lay the foundation for the subsequent network formation in the course of the "FrauenMut" symposium.

Experts in focus

For the symposium, the project team led by project manager Dipl.ing.in Elke Szalai invited those experts who deal professionally with the topics of women, poverty, everyday life and work on a daily basis to take centre stage.

Karin Behringer-Pfann (Managing Director of "Der Lichtblick") gavea keynote speech entitled "Women's poverty is (not) hiding - the daily struggle for survival of women in Burgenland" provides a practice-oriented insight into the everyday life of a women's advice centre and thus provides images of the diversity of needs, requirements and potential of women in Burgenland.

BarbaraZach(Association Women for Women Burgenland) showed in her keynote speech keynote "Social welfare new": Room for manoeuvre for Burgenland?"the effects of the change in the law. At the same time, room for manoeuvre was pointed out to cushion the worst effects for Burgenland.

 

 

Knowledge generation & exchange of experience in the workshops

The core of the conference was provided by the four workshops with different focal points organised by Dipl.ing.in Elke Szalai and her team. After a brief input from the workshop leaders, the participants were asked to contribute creatively.

This time and space was to be used above all to generate ideas and draft solutions that could be further developed in the subsequent networking meetings.
