Health & economy combined

Simone Steiner has always enjoyed exercising and watching her diet since she was at school. Since the age of six, her heart has beaten for ice and stick sports. After completing her A-levels at the BHAK in Hartberg, she worked as a junior coordinator at the Austrian Ice and Stick Sports Association (BÖE). Here she was responsible for youth work throughout Austria and organised gymnastics lessons in many schools.

She is currently the reigning world and European champion in the "target competition" discipline. But sport alone was not enough for Simone. She came across the FH Burgenland and the Bachelor's degree programme in Health Management and Health Promotion through an acquaintance.

I was very interested in the mix of health and business. Health is a very important topic in my life and the combination with business is perfect for me.

The health training course with a Nordic walking instructor, the excursion to Sterntalerhof and Oberwart Hospital, as well as the great new friendships, are what make my degree programme so special

The high level of practical orientation and the wide range of additional courses are a highlight of Simone's degree programme.

She needs good time management for her lifestyle. "My days often start at 4.30 a.m., when I'm already on my racing bike early in the morning, and end at 10 p.m., when I've finished studying." Her motivation is very high and she is very ambitious both in her studies and in sport. "Sometimes it's very stressful, but if you have the willpower, you can achieve a lot," says the student. In 2020, she will be competing at the World Championships in Regen, Germany, where she hopes to defend her title in the women's individual target competition.

She sees her professional future in the field of care home management or in school health promotion. "If you are interested in the healthcare sector but would like to have a business focus, then this degree programme is just right for you."
