#GoodbyeEisenstadt - My internship in Munich
In our last post in the blog series "#GoodbyeEisenstadt - My internship abroad", you could read about the impressions and experiences of students Melanie and Erzsébet from the Bachelor's degree programme in International Business Relations in Pula.
In this article, we would now like to tell you more about Selma's cinematic internship from the Bachelor's degree programme in Information, Media & Communication in Munich. Selma worked at the film agency "forStory" in Munich, which specialises in so-called impact films - films with a social impact.
What did you do at "forStory"? What were your tasks? What did your day look like?
The internship was much more varied and exciting than I had imagined. I gained an insight into all areas of the company and also had the opportunity to set priorities and choose some of the tasks.
These ranged from helping with filming and editing videos (camera/editing was the main focus of the internship), creating and editing photos, to looking after the social media channels (creating graphics - graphic design, social media management) and organising a film festival (event management), which was set up by forStory. I was therefore also very active in marketing.
I was also always in contact with customers, by phone and email. The programmes I have worked with and in which I have been able to improve my skills enormously are the Adobe programmes (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Indesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Lightroom, Audition).
What did you particularly like? What can you take away for your future?
Overall, I learnt a lot during my internship and I was able to get a taste of many areas, which helped me to see what I would like to do in the future and what I would rather not do. I liked the fact that being in Germany allowed me to concentrate fully on this new experience and that I learnt a lot not only during my internship but also in my free time.
My superiors were also always recommending interesting events to me or planning leisure activities for all employees. Among other things, we cooked at least once a week in the office, which was very good for team building.
Were there any moments that didn't go the way you would have liked?
Of course, there were always tasks that were difficult because, on the one hand, I didn't have the necessary knowledge and, on the other, I often didn't dare to ask if I didn't know something.
I was given a lot of responsibility relatively early on, which always stressed me out. In the end, however, every problem was solved and I grew with the tasks.
Such an internship abroad needs to be well planned, did you have any difficulties with the planning?
Alongside my semester abroad, the internship abroad was one of the best decisions of my life. I learned so much, especially about myself, and became much more independent because I had to organise everything myself. It wasn't so easy to find accommodation and organise all the bureaucratic things, such as filling out Erasmus documents or registering in the city, in addition to working 40 hours a week.
But it's definitely worth it, because probably one of the most important things I've learnt is that you can do anything in the end, no matter how difficult it seems at first.
Your conclusion?
I would always go abroad again, because the life experience you gain makes up for all the effort.
