#GoodbyeEisenstadt - My internship in St. Petersburg

While Melanie & Erzsèbet spent their internship in Pula and Selma her internship in Munich, Maximilian decided to go to the supposedly most beautiful city in the world - St. Petersburg! In this blog post, you can find out what motivated Maximilian to go to St. Petersburg and what he experienced during his internship.

About the person

Maximilian is studying for a Bachelor's degree in International Economic Relations and spent his work placement in St. Petersburg. His degree programme requires him to complete his internship in a Central and Eastern European country.

How did you come across St. Petersburg?

After conversations and reports from students from the previous year, I quickly realised that I wanted to do my internship at the language school "Liden & Denz" in St. Petersburg. It's the perfect opportunity to improve your language skills and gain professional experience in marketing.

St Petersburg is not exactly around the corner. How was the planning of your internship? Were there any problems?

When I was accepted at the beginning of last year, I was already looking forward to it, even if I felt a little uncertain and nervous. When you spend a long time abroad away from your family and friends for the first time, I think that's part of it and is a completely normal process that you go through and that ultimately helps you as a person.

Liden & Denz can issue student visas for a maximum period of three months, but we came up with a fairly flexible solution. We were able to agree to split my internship into two parts. This allowed me to spend my entire internship in St. Petersburg.

I completed the first part from August to October. When I returned home at the beginning of October, I applied for another visa for the period from the end of October to mid-January without any problems.

The language school offers the option of booking accommodation with a host family or in a "shared flat" with other language students. However, I decided to book accommodation via AirBnB.

What does your working day look like? What are your tasks in the company?

My internship consists of language lessons in the mornings, which are free as an intern, and various marketing tasks in the afternoons.

A large part of my work consists of writing blog posts, including search engine optimisation for the homepage and translation work. Other tasks include helping to acquire new customers for the company, analysing the competition and preparing and organising events.

How do you spend your free time?

In the European Capital of Culture and metropolis of St. Petersburg, you will never get bored. Liden& Denz offers several excursions a week to a wide variety of places. You can easily register as an optional extra and will certainly not be travelling alone. An excursion to the formerly closed city and the Kronstadt naval base have been two highlights so far.

In addition to the impressive sights such as Peterhof, Ermitage, Catherine Palace and the famous Church of the Resurrection, students should not miss out on the nightlife in St. Petersburg. Countless cafés, bars and clubs have provided me with unforgettable memories and new friendships.
