In doing so, she is taking a deliberate step in a new direction – whilst at the same time building on her previous work with people.

Immediately after completing her A-levels at BAFEB in Oberwart, she entered the world of work. She spent her first year working in Vienna, and has been based in Eisenstadt ever since. She has now said goodbye to her group and her colleagues and is embarking on a full-time degree course. She says saying goodbye wasn’t easy, but at the same time, her excitement about what lies ahead outweighs any sadness.

“I’ve always enjoyed working with people and, over the years, I’ve realised that I really enjoy supporting not only the children but also their parents,” she explains. It is precisely this desire to be better able to support people in different life situations that has made the idea of studying grow even stronger in recent years. Last year, she finally decided to take this step.

Jaqueline finds the broad range of subjects covered by a degree in social work particularly appealing. She is looking forward to deepening her knowledge and broadening her professional background with new perspectives.

As well as the lectures, she is particularly looking forward to getting to know her future fellow students. After nearly ten years working in a kindergarden, she is now hoping for fresh inspiration and an exciting change of pace. “I think we’ve all started our studies with similar aims. It’s certainly going to be exciting,” she says.

The young student has also already given some thought to her work placements. She is particularly interested in placements in prisons and in child and youth welfare services. There, she hopes to gain insights into different areas of work and further deepen her interest in social issues.
