The diversity of the interests of Michael Fleischhacker, a graduate of FH Burgenland, can be seen in his career path.

The former professional footballer with nine years' experience in the Bundesliga completed a teaching degree and taught at primary school level for 12 years. At the same time, he completed a degree in education, psychology and philosophy. However, before he was able to enter this field, a job offer as IT manager at the Burgenland Education Directorate beckoned at the turn of the millennium.

"My involvement with IT was largely self-taught," he says. Since then, he has never let go of the subject. In recent years, he has become increasingly involved professionally with the virtualisation of systems. "I then came across the Master's degree programme in Cloud Computing Engineering at Burgenland University of Applied Sciences, which really fascinated me." He completed the part-time programme in June 2023.

In his final thesis, he managed to combine his passion for philosophy with current developments in artificial intelligence. After all, artificial intelligence, the opportunities it opens up for us, but also the challenges and dangers involved, are not just a computer science topic. In addition to a survey of the technical and scientific status quo, he also deals with ethical and philosophical questions about the present and future of AI-using humanity and interviewed renowned experts.

What I particularly enjoyed about my time at Burgenlang UAS: The great variety and breadth of the content offered in the degree programme as well as the opportunity to specialise in a preferred field of interest. This was also the reason why I decided to take an interdisciplinary research approach to the topic of artificial intelligence in my Master's thesis.
