Interview series #6: Would I recommend my Bachelor's degree programme to my best friend?

I realised relatively early on that I wanted to study social work. After HLA, I realised that I definitely didn't want to study business. I am a very open-minded person and I have always been interested in social issues. I have also always been socially committed. After my research, I finally came across the FH Burgenland. As the university has a reputation for being a social and family-orientated UAS, I decided to try my luck here.

I'm travelling by car. I have a few colleagues with whom I take turns driving. As we're from the same area, we've decided to form a carpool. It works very well most of the time, unless someone has an appointment after their studies.

I don't think we need to talk about the situation with public transport - it's not really a great situation.

Basically, most of my colleagues are nice and we get on well, but there are tensions from time to time. If our teachers notice the tensions, they try to resolve these situations with us without murder and manslaughter.

Our lecturers are very nice and courteous. There isn't really a hierarchy in the lecture theatre as the lecturers make us feel like equals. There are one or two exceptions, but that's just part of life. The relationship between lecturers and students was one of the reasons why I studied here at the UAS: you can just feel the good atmosphere throughout the building.

The FH and the campus are very beautiful. Unfortunately, there isn't really any traditional student life in Eisenstadt. There aren't many places to go partying. The clubs that do exist are either expensive or there's not much going on.

We do three internships on this degree programme. These take place in the first, third and fourth semesters. I did my first internship in the judicial circuit. It lasted two weeks and I was in various prisons. I found the work incredibly exciting, but I don't think I'll work there because I find it very difficult to differentiate between sex offenders.

The lecturers are simply world class, as they come from the field and therefore the teaching is much more lively. This gives us a good insight into practice. I also really like the fact that we get to know a different field of activity every semester. The topics and problems we deal with are always very interesting. And because we are a small university of applied sciences, the atmosphere here is really friendly.

I would like there to be more events for us students. Maybe just more parties where we can all get together, even across degree programmes.

I would definitely recommend my degree programme to my best friend. The degree programme is very interesting and you are well prepared for your professional life. The atmosphere and climate at FH Burgenland is simply indescribable and authentic.
