Not a classic media study programme

She was already involved in school radio during her time at school, designed the websites for various clubs and enjoyed writing texts and taking photographs. It's no wonder that Anna Prenner found the right degree programme in the Bachelor's degree course in Information, Media & Communication.

"It was very important for me to start my career quickly. And I didn't want to make the length of my studies dependent on whether I was a tenth of a second late registering for a course. And that's where I see the clear advantages of a university of applied sciences. If you get a place on a course and your performance is good, you are guaranteed to have a Bachelor's degree in three years, so to speak," says Anna Prenner, a full-time student on the Bachelor's degree programme in Information, Media & Communication.

She found out about FH Burgenland at her school's study information day during her time at school.

Basically, the combination of information science, media science and communication science convinced me.

Anna Prenner, student at the FH Burgenland

"I like technology, creating content, whether it's photo editing, video editing or writing texts. And that's where the course content comes in. The creation of multimedia stories. But most importantly: I enjoy communicating. And the degree programme is very suitable for that."

She describes the highlights of her studies so far as follows "What makes me particularly happy is when fellow students become friends. There were also varied optional subjects, such as Social Media Success and Social Media Practice. In the fourth semester, we were given the opportunity to create a report for ORF as part of the "Licht ins Dunkel" programme - that was really exciting. But what I also like is the choice of lecturers. It takes practice and experience, especially in the field of journalism. We learn from luminaries - who can say, for example, that the editors are experts on the Middle East, programme managers for ZIB or another ORF format? That's very impressive!"

Anna's time as a trainee was also particularly exciting: "I worked in radio at ORF Burgenland. In addition to the lovely colleagues who taught me their journalistic skills, I was able to put what I had learnt in theory into practice and gain a lot of experience. I miss that time!"

She is positive about her future: "It doesn't matter whether it's a company, an organisation or an association. Digitalisation has an impact on everyone and there is a need for communication experts with technical knowledge, who ideally also master the craft of journalism. I made exactly the right choice with my degree programme."
