Barbara Wirth is responsible for examinations at the Medical Faculty of the Sigmund Freud Private University of Vienna.

Around 1,300 students are currently studying at the faculty. She remains committed to her enthusiasm for lifelong learning, both professionally and privately. After studying Italian at the Humboldt University in Berlin, she completed a Master's degree in e-learning and knowledge management at the Burgenland University of Applied Sciences a few years later.

"Since 2008, I have always worked at educational institutions, especially universities," she says. Her interest in digital teaching led her to study part-time at the Burgenland University of Applied Sciences.

She found working on her practical project particularly exciting. Together with two fellow students, she designed an "onboarding" course for students to help them find their way around the Moodle learning platform. The result is a course that can make life much easier for first-year students and is sure to be useful at any university that uses Moodle.

They were also enthusiastic about the creative aspects of the course.

We have learnt to produce explanatory videos and podcasts. These tools can be used in a variety of ways. Basically, I try to use everything I learnt during my studies in some way.

The part-time course was challenging, Barbara Wirth describes, but everything worked perfectly in terms of organisation - despite the pandemic. "It was also great working with my fellow students - we know each other very well despite the distance. It was a very enlightening experience for me to realise that you don't have to sit in the same room to create great group work and projects together."
