Passion for cricket

He brought an interest in economics with him from his school days at a HLW. He definitely sees his professional future in this broad field. He doesn't yet know exactly where.

In addition to his studies, Aqib is also pursuing a successful sporting career. As a member of the Austrian national cricket team, he represented Austria at the World Cup in Malaga, for example. How did he get into this extraordinary sport? "My parents are from Pakistan. The sport is very popular there. When we moved from Lower Austria to Vienna 10 years ago, I looked around for clubs. I've been playing for the Austrian national team since I was 16."

Just like in football, there are 11 people in a cricket team. Aqib plays in the bowler's position - in other words, the pitcher. "The cricket community is growing!" he says happily. "Many students from the club also teach children in primary schools. The sport is becoming more and more popular." The sporty Viennese currently trains three times a week. Austria is currently ranked 41st in the world, so the FH team is keeping its fingers crossed.
