Watching people grow fascinates me
From the grape harvest to the bottle design - the community sets the direction. Blockchain technology can then be used to track the origin of the wine bottle right through to opening.
Gottschalk himself studied computer science and geosciences and worked in management consultancy and project management for 12 years. For the past five years, he has been running his own consultancy firm, customised for the wine industry. His clients include wineries and wine shops, which he advises on social media, branding and brand communication. "The Master's degree programme in International Wine Marketing was a good fit in terms of content," he says. In 2018, he started the part-time degree programme at the Burgenland University of Applied Sciences, where he now teaches himself. In his courses, he combines his two areas of interest - wine and modern technologies. "Crypto and blockchain technologies offer exciting opportunities for wine marketing," he is convinced.
He describes himself as a "knowledge hoover". He enjoys sharing knowledge with others at least as much as he enjoys acquiring it himself. He is particularly fascinated by seeing people grow.

The cool thing about FH Burgenland is that everything is very informal. In terms of content, I love the mixture of classic theory, such as strategic marketing, and modern input. The network is also extremely good. We graduates, lecturers and students are a colourful mix of all age groups and many industries.
Alexander Gottschalk, graduate of the FH Burgenland
The idea for his start-up came to Gottschalk after his studies: "The degree programme laid the foundation for a broad and important understanding of marketing and gave our company an additional boost. I can highly recommend the degree programme to anyone who is thinking about working in the wine industry, especially in marketing or as an entrepreneur."
