Off to the hall after the FH
With his team, the BBC Nord Dragonz from Eisenstadt, he will play 22 games against 11 opposing teams over the next few months. Sounds pretty intense. And it is. Because David is also studying for a Bachelor's degree in International Business Relations at the Burgenland University of Applied Sciences. Both of these things work out - mainly thanks to a lot of discipline.
David started playing basketball at the age of eight. He picked up his enthusiasm for it from his mum, who beat his father, a footballer, to the punch 😉 "I've been playing for the Dragonz from the start and I hope it stays that way for a long time," says David.
At 1.93 metres tall, he is currently in the upper midfield of his team. He still has to look up 20 cm to his tallest team-mate. David plays in the position of power forward - so he is usually in action close to the basket in offence and defence.
He currently trains five times a week - at least. There are also voluntary morning sessions and matches. Where does the motivation come from?
Basketball is simply my sport. I like the team feeling and it's nice to grow as an athlete but also together as a team.

Regular training is of course important for this. "You endeavour to get better every time. That's often challenging."
In terms of time, it's not easy to juggle a professional sports career and full-time studies, and free time naturally suffers. But after a long day at the UAS, it's also good to clear your head in the gym during training. David's lecturers at the UAS have been very understanding so far. "Surprisingly, there weren't that many clashes or overlaps last season. But if I have to leave half an hour early somewhere, it's not a problem."
He came across the International Business Relations degree programme through a friend. He is now in his third semester and "is pleasantly surprised by how dry the programme is." He is particularly interested in the subject of marketing - perhaps for later. He also has the opportunity to brush up on his Hungarian. He can imagine studying for a Master's degree later on - but he definitely wants to continue playing basketball - perhaps even abroad.
