New head of degree programme

The IT expert can draw on over 20 years of experience as an entrepreneur and programmer. He has been a lecturer at the Burgenland University of Applied Sciences for several years.

Software engineering is a core discipline in the creation of innovative processes and production, which is why it is important to offer a corresponding training programme in Burgenland.

His expectations

Why is this topic so important?

"No matter what area of life you look at, software is always an essential part of new solutions. Consequently, software engineering is a key factor in creating innovation to meet current and future challenges."

What would you like to focus on?

"I would like to focus on ensuring that after graduation, someone knows and masters all the tools needed to independently carry out software development in all its facets, from architecture to implementation and application operation - using the latest technologies, e.g. in the area of cloud services."

Why are you personally enthusiastic about the topic?

"I got my first computer at a time when there were only a few ready-made programmes, most of which had to be devised or copied. Since then, I've enjoyed finding solutions and realising my own ideas. I see the computer as a creative tool, and when you write your own software, there are virtually no limits to your creativity. When the solutions you come up with help other people, it's a perfect combination of fun and purpose."

Franz Knipp about his career:

"Electronics and computers have interested and fascinated me for as long as I can remember. Accordingly, I chose technical training, completed the HTL for mechanical engineering and aeronautical engineering and then studied electrical engineering at the Vienna University of Technology. During my studies, the Internet came of age and found its way into private households. Suddenly it was possible to create something that was accessible worldwide with a manageable amount of effort. I gained my first experience with Internet technologies during my studies, after which I was able to develop web and e-mail applications in a Viennese software company, which were used by several million customers of mobile phone operators and Internet service providers. Starting a family and moving to Burgenland solidified my desire for self-employment, which led to the founding of qnipp GmbH in 2011, which has since offered several jobs in the field of software development. Shortly afterwards, I was offered the chance to pass on my knowledge and experience as an external lecturer at the Burgenland University of Applied Sciences. I really enjoy teaching, so the new degree programme is a great opportunity to combine my enthusiasm for software development and teaching."
