The content sounded so exciting to the two network experts, who work at Nokia in Germany, that they embarked on the adventure of studying abroad.
"Due to the pandemic, the conditions for us ended up being completely different than expected," explains Dominik. The two had actually assumed that they would be travelling to Austria every fortnight for the courses.
Flexibility was important to us when choosing a suitable degree programme, but so was the cost. A degree programme like this is very expensive in Germany. This degree programme was a perfect fit - also for our job profile.

The two electrical engineers came to IT through a work assignment in Spain. One thing led to another and Fabio and Dominik became sought-after SDN specialists.
"Dealing with the cloud is an obvious choice for us in our job. When looking for suitable further training opportunities, it's hard to avoid studying at Burgenland University of Applied Sciences," says Dominik.
Both are professionally involved in the integration of software-defined network solutions. Their employer Nokia has always been very supportive of their studies. "For example, we get two weeks' special leave to write our Master's thesis," says Fabio.
To put it as simply as possible, we are working on building a telecommunications cloud data centre that is suitable for 5G. To achieve this, in addition to the hardware (servers, routers, cables, etc.), you also need a dynamic network structure to be able to operate cloud applications as efficiently as possible. The so-called software-defined network can fulfil precisely these demands on the network.

"We put an abstracted network structure on top of the actual network structure," adds Fabio. A lot of the content from their studies brought the two of them added value in their projects.
