Summer party on campus: start the holidays mentally stronger

FH Burgenland
FH Burgenland

We are students on the Bachelor's degree programme in Health Management and Health Promotion and were able to take part in the summer festival at the Eisenstadt and Pinkafeld campuses as part of the ‘Practical project in healthcare’ course.

The Austrian Student Union, the Sport and Health Association of FH Burgenland, the Studo-Fit project and students have been involved in the preparations since the beginning of the semester to celebrate the conclusion of the project on mental student health and the end of the semester in a fitting manner. The results of surveys and research from the ‘Studo-Ffit’ project were therefore also presented at the ‘SummerMove’ summer party: Over the past year and a half, this project has focussed on strengthening the mental health of students at FH Burgenland.

Every new experience we have opens the door to new possibilities and broadens our horizons. The mental health summer festival was one of these experiences.

Helping to shape things instead of just being there

Throughout the project, care was taken to ensure that students were actively involved in order to create a sustainable programme for real needs. And this strategy was also to be continued at the summer festival: Not only were framework conditions jointly decided, but students were much more involved from the beginning of the semester in the preparation of the marketing through to the planning of the programme items.

The programme included an outdoor yoga session, a mental health pub quiz, European Championship public viewing and an evening programme with music. Taking part in the summer festival was an enriching experience for us students. We were able to practice target group-orientated work, especially when preparing content on the topic of mental health, for example for the Mental Health Pub Quiz.

In the course of preparing for the summer party, we had the opportunity to put all the skills we had learnt in the various courses into practice.

Impressions from Pinkafeld & Eisenstadt

The time had finally come: the semester was coming to an end and the summer party could start as planned in Pinkafeld near the student house. Despite the unstable weather, the mood of the participants was not dampened and the party was well attended. The festive atmosphere on campus in Eisenstadt was also memorable. We also had the opportunity to talk to various students across departments.

We were also able to make contact with part-time students and get their views on the mental health programme at UAS Burgenland in the form of peer discussions. We were particularly surprised that all participating teams answered the majority of the questions in the ‘Mental Health PubQuiz’ correctly. But well: our students are well informed. As always 😉

The summer party was a good opportunity to get together with students from other degree programmes and make new contacts. In the stressful everyday life of studying, there is often not enough time to get to know each other better. The summer party offered the ideal opportunity for this.
