Social work can do more

There is more to social work than just helping people. To give our students as much insight as possible into the diverse fields of activity and tasks, project planning and project management are also part of the curriculum. Here we present two of the challenges for our students.

Challenge #1 - "The Wishing Punch"

Even before project management is part of the curriculum, our students have the opportunity to put their project planning skills to the test in their first semester. To ensure that there are no limits to their creativity, the goal is simply to organise a punch stall for charity before Christmas.

The "Wish Punch" was initiated by the first year of the Bachelor's degree programme in Social Work back in 2015, who wanted to support families in Burgenland with their idea. The great success in the first year turned it into a cherished tradition for the students in their first semester.

But what would studying be without growing with your tasks?
That's exactly why we have Challenge #2.

Challenge #2 - Creativity

Project management in participatory child and youth work - the final event

As part of the course "Project management in participatory child and youth work", our students overcome completely different hurdles.
In addition to the theories of participation, project management and creativity, our students gain in-depth knowledge of photography/video, theatre/drama and music, depending on their interests. The focus is always on the creative possibilities for action in participatory child and youth work.

Ziel der Challenge ist es für jede Gruppe, Jugendliche für ihr Projekt zu begeistern, das Projekt umzusetzen und zu dokumentieren. Nebenbei darf auch noch ein großes Abschlussevent, bei der alle Projekte präsentiert werden, geplant und durchgeführt werden.

Brücken legen – der Jugend Zukunft geben

Das war das Motto der letzten Challenge. Einen Eindruck davon, wie unsere Studierenden dieses Motto umgesetzt haben könnt ihr in diesem TV Beitrag bekommen.

Studentin Verena Dirnberger erzählt uns: „Die Studierenden des 4. Semesters aus dem Studiengang Sozialer Arbeit haben am 28. Juni 2018 am Campus Eisenstadt der FH Burgenland ein Großevent organisiert. Das Event diente der Präsentation der vier durchgeführten Projekte der offenen Jugendarbeit im Burgenland und stand unter dem Motto „Brücken legen – der Jugend Zukunft geben“.

Der Abend wurde sehr abwechslungsreich gestaltet, von Improvisationstheater bis hin zur Präsentation der selbst komponierten Lieder war alles dabei. Hauptaugenmerk wurde auf die Projekte der offenen Jugendarbeit im Burgenland gelegt, welche innerhalb eines Monats geplant und durchgeführt wurden. In Gruppen von vier bis sieben Personen gestalteten die Studierenden vier unterschiedliche Projekte, die sich sehen lassen können. Die Nachhaltigkeit der Projekte stand heuer im Fokus.“
