Eisenstadt/Pinkafeld, 07 November 2023 - Grey skies, short days. It is estimated that around 15 per cent of the population is affected by seasonal depression. Many more people are probably familiar with the autumn blues. In principle, seasonal low moods are quite normal and in most cases no cause for concern. Nevertheless, there are ways to alleviate symptoms such as listlessness, tiredness and a depressed mood. FH Burgenland is currently trying to do this through the Studo-Fit project, which is subsidised by the Healthy Austria Fund. The project partner is the Austrian Student Union. The project results are to be embedded in the overall strategy of FH Burgenland and further developed as a sustainable health promotion programme for students.

Sustainably promoting mental well-being

The first step of the project was to identify the needs of the approximately 7,700 regular and non-degree students at FH Burgenland. "As we attach particular importance to the active involvement of students, students on the Bachelor's degree programme in Health Management and Health Promotion are also actively involved in the project," explains project manager Katharina Koch. Students can also voluntarily qualify as Studo-Fit coaches. 21 students have taken up this offer so far. They will subsequently provide low-threshold and sustainable support for their fellow students.

In November, interested students will receive scientifically sound tips and tricks to escape the autumn blues and get through the dark season mentally strong. In addition to exercise tips, the programme also offers content on how best to take breaks and relaxation sessions. The aim of all measures is to strengthen mental health through self-care.
