Silvia Ettl-Huber, Departmentleiterin Wirtschaft der Hochschule Burgenland mit dem neuen Studiengangsleiter des Masterstudiengangs European Studies - Management of EU Projects, Christoph Breinschmid
Eisenstadt, 29 September 2026. The English-taught Master’s Degree Programme in European Studies – Management of EU Projects at the University of Applied Sciences Burgenland has a new programme director: Christoph Breinschmid is taking over this role from Gerda Füricht-Fiegl, who has moved to the USTP – University of Applied Sciences St. Pölten as rector.
For Christoph Breinschmid, born in 1987, this new role is also of personal significance: he himself completed the Master’s Degree Programme in European Studies – Management of EU Projects at the University of Applied Sciences Burgenland and has been closely associated with the programme as a lecturer since 2018. For more than 15 years, his professional work has centred on European cooperation, EU project management and funding, as well as the development and implementation of international projects. His career has spanned a wide range of roles, from working on EU projects for NGOs, think tanks, the public sector and businesses, to founding his own consultancy, project and creative agency, and serving as press spokesperson for European and international affairs at the Ministry of Finance during Austria’s EU Council Presidency.
“European Studies and EU project management have been a constant throughout my professional life, ever since my own studies at the University of Applied Sciences Burgenland. I am therefore all the more delighted to now take charge of this degree programme myself and to help shape its future development. It is particularly important to me to further expand its strong practical focus.”
We want our students not only to understand how the EU and European funding programmes work, but also to engage with actual projects, current challenges and international partners as early as possible. At the same time, I would like to further strengthen the programme’s international network and forge new links between teaching, project development and professional practice.

The part-time Master’s Degree Programme in European Studies – Management of EU Projects equips students with the skills needed to develop, apply for, implement and evaluate European projects, and prepares them for careers at the intersection of EU policy, project management, international cooperation and funding schemes. Applications for the next academic year will open in October.
