Lecturer and research assistant in the Department of Energy and Environment at Burgenland University of Applied Sciences becomes a professor (FH).

Pinkafeld, 7 November 2025: Franz Inschlag, a long-time employee of the University of Applied Sciences Burgenland, was awarded the title of Professor (FH) by Rector Bettina Schauer-Frank in a festive ceremony. You cannot apply for this title, you have to be nominated for it. The requirements for the FH professorship are an academic education, teaching activities at the Burgenland University of Applied Sciences, relevant practical experience, applied research and development activities and special achievements for the development of the university.

Franz Inschlag, born in 1974, began his professional career as an HVAC installer and completed his apprenticeship with the master craftsman's examination. He later decided to pursue an academic career via the second educational path, completing a Bachelor's degree in Energy and Environmental Management with a focus on building services engineering at the University of Applied Sciences Burgenland (then still FH Burgenland) and then went on to complete a Master's degree in Sustainable Energy Systems.

He specialised in technologies such as biomass, solar thermal energy, photovoltaics and small-scale hydropower. He initially gained professional experience in engineering offices before moving to the Burgenland University of Applied Sciences in 2008. Since then, he has worked there as a laboratory coordinator, in research projects and as a lecturer.

His research focuses on dynamic building and system simulations, numerical investigations using CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) and the optimisation of thermal-hydraulic processes in building services engineering. In teaching, he specialises in classical and in-depth system hydraulics as well as heating and air conditioning technology.

His work, including the modelling of hybrid double façades and the development of innovative heat storage systems, has been recognised by experts and has provided practical solutions for energy technology.

"Franz Inschlag's contribution to research, teaching and practice is recognised with his appointment as a professor at the University of Applied Sciences. With his commitment, he is making a lasting contribution to the energy transition and the training of future specialists," emphasises Christian Wartha, Head of the Department of Energy and Environment.
