The expert in accounting and digital business, who teaches full-time in the Department of Economics, was ceremoniously awarded the title of Professor (FH).

The requirements for the UAS professorship are academic training, teaching at the University of Applied Sciences Burgenland, relevant practical experience, applied research and development activities and special achievements for the development of the university.

Johannes Ernst has been a Senior Lecturer for Accounting and Digital Business at the Department of Business at the University of Applied Sciences Burgenland since 2021. In addition to his teaching activities in the areas of accounting and controlling, investment and finance, business administration and entrepreneurship as well as IT and process management, he also works on research projects (focus: sustainable reporting, controlling and finance).

After completing his degree in business administration, specialising in controlling, business informatics and environmental economics at the Vienna University of Economics and Business, he worked for several years in application research in corporate environmental protection, first at the Interdisciplinary Institute for Environment and Economics at Vienna University of Economics and Business and then at a private research company. This was followed by years as an ERP consultant, consultant, project manager and manager at Gneist Consulting Team, among others. In addition to management positions in major international companies, he also worked for over 10 years as a part-time lecturer in Controlling & Finance at University of Applied Sciences Burgenland, Vienna University of Applied Sciences and WIFI Burgenland. Ernst is deputy regional chairman for Burgenland in the Economic Forum of Executives and the university's representative in the Entrepreneurship Centre Network Vienna. The 56-year-old is married, has two grown-up children and lives in the district of Wiener Neustadt.
