Master's programme with new additional degrees for digital, sustainable transformation and leadership in care

Pinkafeld, 17 March 2026: University of Applied Burgenland Sciences is responding to the great demand for specialists and managers who strategically combine management, digitalisation and sustainability in the healthcare sector. The part-time Master's degree programme in Health Management and Integrated Care has therefore been sharpened in terms of content and expanded to include additional degrees that can be chosen extracurricularly.

Students who have chosen the Integrated Care specialisation can obtain the CAS (Certificate of Advanced Studies) "Digital and Sustainable Transformation in Healthcare" in addition to the standard degree programme. In the Health Care Management specialisation, the DAS (Diploma of Advanced Studies) "Leadership in Nursing" is available for students with a nursing degree. This is based on the legal requirements for management tasks in accordance with Section 65a of the Healthcare and Nursing Act and qualifies graduates to fulfil the role of nursing service manager. There are no additional costs for either additional qualification.

One degree programme, lots of expertise

The two new options for additional qualifications are part of a range of existing qualifications that students can acquire as part of the programme, including quality management certification in cooperation with TÜV Austria, project management certification and a qualification in case and care management. The part-time Master's programme is aimed at people from the healthcare professions as well as those with an economic background who aspire to management roles, want to explore new subject areas or broaden their perspective. The curriculum covers many areas and addresses current challenges in the healthcare sector. Possible professional fields include healthcare management, quality and project management, case and care management, teaching, research and development as well as - with DAS and § 65a GuKG - higher nursing management. Employers can be health and social care facilities such as hospitals, rehabilitation clinics, health resorts, outpatient services, local authorities, group practices, health organisations, long-term care facilities, care facilities, advice centres or social insurance providers.

"Our 'Master Plus' is a future-oriented degree programme that is unique in Austria. With its focus on digitalisation, sustainability and modern leadership, the course specifically addresses current topics in today's healthcare sector," explains Magdalena Csandl, head of the course.

Interprofessional, networked, practical

The degree programme is broadly based and benefits from interprofessionalism: doctors, nurses, midwives, MTD professions and specialists with an economic background learn together - accompanied by lecturers from different disciplines. Interdisciplinary courses with another Master's programme from the Department of Health & Social Affairs and the use of simulation games strengthen practical relevance, networking and transfer.
