Project on the energy transition: Children coach their parents

Parents' workshop

The Allhau and Bernstein secondary schools are working very closely with the Department of Energy & Environment at University of Applied Sciences Burgenland as part of a research project. Now that the children are little experts on the energy transition, it was time to coach their parents on how to deal with energy.

Pinkafeld, 10 February 2026: To achieve the energy transition, we all need to be on board. The aim of the "Wwww2_Coole_Energie" research project from the Department of Energy & Environment at University of Applied Sciences Burgenland, which is funded by the FFG as part of the "Talente regional" programme, is to raise awareness among children at an early age and use them to influence their parents. As part of the project, workshops were held in several schools in Burgenland to impart knowledge and, above all, have fun. The project concluded with workshops for parents, where the children were able to put their expertise to the test.

A "special treat" for the parents: they also had the opportunity to talk to experts on absolutely relevant topics such as heat pumps, biomass heating, photovoltaics and building services planning, lighting technology and electronics.

"I think it's great that the school made this workshop with our children possible. I found the visualisation of the heat pump particularly interesting."

reports a father.

The following schools are taking part in the wwww - how do we want to live project: the Pinkafeld technical college, the new secondary schools in Markt Allhau and Bernstein, the primary schools in Markt Allhau and Bernstein and the Markt Allhau kindergarten. A total of around 110 children are involved in the project.
