I have seen half the world
He studied nautical science and maritime transport in East Frisia and worked in the shipping industry for several years. For him, this meant being at sea for months at a time as first officer. In addition to navigation, his duties also included load planning, safety planning and maintenance work on board. He travelled throughout Europe, Russia and South America on cargo ships "in the small range" - with a length of around 100 metres. "I've transported everything - from raw materials for paper production to submarine cables and locomotives," he says.

In maritime shipping, I came to understand the impact that industry has on the environment. When I returned to Austria, I started looking for a degree programme where I could focus on the environment, climate and energy.
Stefan Sadler, student at the UAS Burgenland
He found exactly what he was looking for in the Master's degree programme in Energy and Environmental Management at Burgenland University of Applied Sciences.
What he liked best about his studies was the "mixture of theory and practice, the laboratory exercises and the fact that you can do something with your hands and see the results."
In his master's thesis, he focussed on ways to bind harmful CO2 at regional level in Burgenland.
He now lives with his family in Neusiedl. Sailing is still his great passion.
