The degree programme broadens my horizon
As a young mother with a toddler, the desire to start studying came right after leaving school, but it was not the right time. Her varied career began in hotel and tourism management with several years of experience in the hotel and catering industry in Vienna. She then worked in various positions and industries: as a childminder, as an exercise instructor in the sports and yoga industry, as a management assistant in the arts & culture industry and in the software trade. She stayed in "her last restaurant" for several years and, after her initial period as a sous chef, eventually took on the position of chef de rang and deputy manager. This role offered her professional fulfilment as well as financial security with manageable working hours. After some time, Nina was ready for new challenges and the opportunity arose.
When she was approached by the head of the International Business Relations programme, she was impressed by this Bachelor's degree and the opportunities it offered. Today she is in the third semester of the English-languageInternational Sustainable Business programme.
Studying at the Burgenland University of Applied Sciences, she can not only develop her personality and soft skills, but also acquire specialist expertise.

The exchange with inspiring people - committed professors and students from all over the world - was particularly enriching. Their perspectives, experiences and content broadened my horizon.
Nina Sysel, student at the Burgenland University of Applied Sciences
Beyond the expected aspects of studying, she was keen to help shape the system in which she moves and learns. This led to the decision to found her own party for university representation in order to further develop and improve student life at the university.
Today, she is proud to work as chairwoman with a team of representatives from several parties. "We show that different views can create something positive together. We take a different approach to the usual "blocking and tackling" and refrain from defaming each other. In this way, I am not only shaping my academic career, but also making an active contribution to systematically improving student life at Burgenland University of Applied Sciences."
"And to top it all off, this year the university enabled me to fulfil an almost forgotten wish: a semester abroad."
