Dissertation on hedge accounting
She graduated from a commercial academy and was given the opportunity to complete an internship at Deloitte for two summers. "Even then, I was able to gain an insight into everything that needs to be done for a company's annual financial statements." Basically, her career was already predetermined, she says today. Years later, her enthusiasm for the financial sector remains undiminished.
After HAK, she started at KPMG.

It was always clear that I wanted to work alongside my studies.
Nina Peter, PhD student at FH Burgenland
Nina was impressed by the overall concept of the part-time degree programme at the Burgenland University of Applied Sciences. She enrolled on the Bachelor's and then the Master's degree programme in International Business Relations at the Burgenland University of Applied Sciences. Even a job change in between could not stop Nina Peter. She joined the controlling department of an Austrian retail group. "My employer was always very supportive," she says.
She became more and more interested in the field of risk management. "I realised that there are many areas in which companies are unsure." This is how her interest in hedge accounting began.
After completing her Master's degree, the position of Head of Finance at Hirtenberger Defence beckoned. After an academic break of just one year, she decided to enrol on the International Joint Cross-Border PhD Programme in International Economic Relations and Management at Burgenland University of Applied Sciences with international partner universities.
In my dissertation, I want to explore what new opportunities are hidden behind hedge accounting and how companies can be supported in recognising them. Companies have a lot of questions here and pay a lot of money to consultants. I think it's time to give companies the strength to be able to deal with this themselves.
Nina Peter, PhD student
Why has she remained loyal to FH Burgenland for so many years? "For me, the FH Burgenland is a very familiar institution despite its size. You are supported and helped - the UAS also has an interest in you progressing. That's something very important! I have never felt left alone."
What she appreciates about the PhD programme is the exchange with international experts, which always takes place on an equal footing. "The lecturers know how to combine theory with practice. Hands-on examples are appreciated. We are also seen as experts." It is also exciting to find out how things work culturally in other countries through the lecturers from the partner universities.
