High up on the wind turbine

Jessica Bauer is 27 years old and a project manager at Burgenland Energie. Together with her team, she builds the wind parks in Burgenland.

She has always been interested in technology and: "I always wanted to achieve something and make a difference," Jessica tells us.

After graduating from high school, she attended a college for energy technology, environmental technology and sustainable construction technology and really got into the subject. Parallel to the college, she began studying for a Bachelor's degree in Energy and Environmental Management at the University of Applied Sciences Burgenland , followed by a Master's degree in Sustainable Energy Systems.

"Those were intensive years," she summarises now.

You need the much-quoted grit and stamina, but it definitely pays off if you persevere. These five years at FH Burgenland were a great time - actually one of the coolest times so far. Fellow students became friends. The degree programme has helped me a lot and I can definitely recommend it to others.

While her bachelor's thesis was dedicated to sustainable construction and sustainable building materials, she researched energy communities in her master's programme.

What she likes about her job is that there are always new challenges that allow you to grow. "The most important thing for me is that I can actively contribute to the climate transition, not only in my private life, but also professionally."

Her everyday-tips: switch off the lights in rooms you don't spend time in, separate waste properly and - most importantly - avoid waste. Everyone can make a contribution!
