In the hustle and bustle of the business metropolis of London

The excursion was organised by lecturers Manuela Kovalev, Michaela Fellinger and programme director Tonka Semmler-Matošić as part of the Business English course.

This excursion focussed primarily on London's economy. For example, the global company DHL Express or Advantage Austria London, Austrian National Tourist Office London, Bloomberg, BDO London and Shangri-La The Shard were visited. There was also a guided tour of London's financial district. If you were in the mood, you could go to ‘The Mousetrap’ at St. Martin's Theatre, which is the longest-running play in the world: it has been in the theatre continuously for over 60 years.

To make the journey as flexible as possible for the part-time students, they planned their arrival themselves. The students benefited from the good connections between Vienna and London airports. Departures were also planned individually. Some students naturally took the opportunity to arrive earlier or leave later so that they had some free time before and after the UAS programme.

Unique experiences through the UAS network

Our lecturer Manuela Kovalev is of the opinion that such international excursions are ideal for broadening horizons, deepening intercultural skills and getting to know renowned companies.

Our students also share this view. Especially for professionals, it is an advantage to take a look behind the scenes of other companies and industries in an international context. In addition to the informative lectures and company presentations, the students also had the opportunity to talk to the employees of the companies, which allowed them to explore both the differences and similarities in everyday working life in London and Austria. "Such experiences are worth their weight in gold in professional life," Philipp Habenberger is also convinced.

The visit to the auditing company BDO was a particular highlight for him: it is located directly in the world-famous Baker Street. He also really enjoyed the theatre play "The Mousetrap" in London's West End: On the one hand the play itself, on the other the ambience of St Martin's Theatre. In the evening, of course, it made sense to go to a pub with his colleagues to end the day in a cosy atmosphere and reflect on what had happened.

When asked whether he would travel to London again, his answer was a resounding yes: "Because London is always worth a trip. You have to experience the dynamism and diversity of the city."
