Dr Christof Müller is the new honorary professor at FH Burgenland. The long-standing lecturer in the Department of Business was ceremoniously awarded this honorary title by the university. He has been teaching topics such as leadership and compliance since 2013.

In his main job, the doctor of social sciences and economics is Head of Human Resources at the Generali Group Austria and thus responsible for human resources and training for 4,900 employees of Generali companies in Austria.

Müller is a frequent author of specialist publications and has supervised numerous diploma and master's theses at WU Vienna and FH Burgenland on the topics of controlling, corporate management and compliance. He is a consultant for the FH Burgenland subsidiary AIM - Austrian Institute of Management.

Christof Müller was born with an interest in business. His father was already the HR manager of large companies.

Nevertheless, I started my studies at WU without any complex ideas and have always been happy and committed to the tasks and challenges that life has given me in the course of my professional career.

After graduating in 1994, the opening up of Eastern Europe set the course for his international career. He founded the Controlling Institute Praha, then moved to Generali Holding Vienna AG, for which he joined the Management Board of Generali Pojist'ovna a.s. in Prague at the age of almost 30. Five years later he moved to Poland, where he was responsible for the reestablishment of Generali T.U.S.A. (non-life) and Generali Zycie T.U.S.A. (life) in this market. After a further 5 years, he finally settled in Vienna and took over the HR management of the Generali Group in Austria in 2018 after several management positions.

"I have always taught over the years. First at the WU in Vienna and since 2013 at the FH Burgenland," he says. Passing on knowledge and experience to the younger generation is an inner obligation for him, Müller emphasises. Over time, the focus of his courses has increasingly shifted from controlling to leadership and ethics.

Prof Müller wants leadership to be understood as a profession based on meaningful action.

It is important for me to convey to my students that positive, value-based leadership is the best thing that can happen to a team. If you want to become a manager - and most students have this in mind - you have to be aware of the responsibility that comes with it.

What he finds particularly enriching about teaching is coming into contact with the next generation of managers. "The mindset of students is changing. It is extremely exciting to have value-orientated discussions here. I always find my lectures very reciprocal and work with the students as equals." They thank him for his commitment with top marks in their assessments.

The appointment as an honorary professor at FH Burgenland has a very personal value for Christof Müller. "I am very pleased to have found FH Burgenland as my academic home. We complement each other well. I like the UAS's focus on Central and Eastern Europe and feel very much at home here. The university has shown how modern it is, especially in the special time of the last one and a half years."
