Text neck syndrome: How to prevent text neck?
Preventing neck pain with preventive measures
The vision of this project was to raise awareness of text neck symptoms among students at Burgenland University of Applied Sciences, offer possible preventive measures and provide instructions for self-therapy through exercise videos. With the help of the prevention programme provided - the 'Text Neck Series' - both beginners (to the video tutorial) and advanced students (to the video tutorial) were able to learn more about text neck syndrome from home and take preventive measures with minimal effort.
The results of the self-administered questionnaire provided a good indication of the achievement of the set mission. Around 68.5 % of respondents aged 22-30 suffered from neck pain at the time of the survey or had already experienced such an episode at least once in their lives. In addition, 89.5 % of participants stated that they spend at least three hours a day in front of their smart devices - 50 % of them even spend more than six hours a day. When asked whether the information or videos we provided were effective for those affected, 86.8 % gave a score of 7/10 or higher.
This project was nominated for the Pannonia Project Award 2021. The students of the Bachelor's degree programme in Physiotherapy Matthias Lang, Richard Saurer, Ines Schabhüttl, Andreas Schüler and Lukas Wetl are responsible for this project.
