Understanding virtualisation

Michael Schmit was already very interested in technology when he was at school.

Following his HTL training as a mechatronics engineer, he completed a bachelor's degree in IT Infrastructure Management at the Burgenland University of Applied Sciences. After several professional positions as a software programmer and system engineer in the field of control systems, he decided to take the plunge into self-employment three years ago: "In 2018, I founded BECC GmbH together with two colleagues. We specialise in the implementation of control technology projects. Our customers include companies that operate system-critical infrastructure in the transport and rail sectors."

He is now following up his Bachelor's degree with a part-time Master's degree in Cloud Computing Engineering at the Burgenland University of Applied Sciences and hopes to gain further expertise that is important for his job.

As an ambitious person, expanding my knowledge horizon is always a high priority. Realising the work assigned to me also gives me a lot of pleasure and therefore always provides me with motivation.

Michael Schmit has also recently changed jobs again. His new employer, PKE Verkehrstechnik GmbH, is active in the transport sector. "That's why the topic of cloud/virtualisation is extremely important here." PKE has realised projects such as the control and instrumentation technology for the Arlberg tunnel and the Plabutsch tunnel. Or traffic control centres such as the Munich traffic and operations centre and currently the Stuttgart monitoring centre.
