Uni or FH: Which is better for me?

Uni at a glance
Although some universities also offer practice-orientated courses, they are generally more theoretical in nature. The focus is therefore increasingly on research and academic work. If you want to study pharmacy or law, for example, you have to do this at a university. In order to successfully complete your studies within the standard time frame, you should not only be well organised, but also disciplined: This is because you choose the time of your examinations and courses independently. This means that you will usually sit with different students in the lecture theatre, and the groups are very large. The time freedom is particularly attractive for young people. This arrangement can be a disadvantage, for example, if you can only sit the exam in the next semester because the number of participants is limited and you may not get a place in your preferred seminar.
FH at a glance
At a university of applied sciences, on the other hand, there are fixed timetables: unlike at a university, you are always guaranteed to be able to attend all the courses and take all the exams scheduled in a semester according to the curriculum. You don't have to worry about anything or keep an eye on your ECTS. Instead, you can concentrate fully on your studies, whereby you ‘only’ have to fulfil an attendance requirement of 75 percent per course. Similar to school, you complete your studies together with a fixed small group: this means that you always sit in the lecture theatre with the same colleagues. A university of applied sciences is also characterised by its practice-oriented teaching. It's not just university lecturers who share their expertise with you, but also practitioners from the industry. The curriculum at a university of applied sciences also includes a work placement, which allows you to get a taste of practical experience during your studies. For those who are already working, on the other hand, a part-time degree programme is an option.
