The Alumni TechTalk took place for the third time at the study centre of Burgenland University of Applied Sciences in Pinkafeld - and has clearly established itself as a successful specialist event. "Thinking the future, designing buildings" was the motto for the more than 60 participants.

Pinkafeld, 29 January 2026: In mid-January, the Department of Energy & Environment at Burgenland University of Applied Sciences dedicated the third Alumni TechTalk to the key topic of "Future-Proof Buildings". Over 60 participants - from pioneers of the first year of the renowned Building Technology and Facility Management degree programme to founding lecturers and current students and CEOs - discussed current issues relating to data, strategy and resilience.

Spirit of open exchange at the Pinkafeld campus

It was inspiring to see the dynamics that arise when decades of experience meet fresh impetus and pioneers from the early days discuss with today's CEOs and students as equals.

"The fact that we have covered everything from highly specialised building technology to mindfulness illustrates the impressive diversity of our network - a spirit of open exchange that we will continue to live together on the new campus site on 14 January 2027," says organiser and graduate Lukas Bader, making it clear that the specialist event is here to stay.

Ubiquitous topic: AI

The role of artificial intelligence in the planning, training and operation of buildings was a key focus.

AI agents make it possible to reliably automate numerous sub-processes from design to operation and thus noticeably improve quality, efficiency and the basis for decision-making.

Current AI ecosystems make it possible to set up AI agents that integrate tried-and-tested methods and internal expertise - and thus automate planning, operating and analysis processes in the building life cycle.

Data as the basis for reliable decisions was also the focus of Wolfgang Lukaschek, graduate and Founder & CEO of blue auditor GmbH: "Today, data-based buildings are the key to value retention, climate resilience and integration into an intelligent energy system," he emphasised. Missing or incorrect data bases lead to systematic valuation errors and so-called brown discounts. Only real consumption and operating data enable reliable decarbonisation paths, well-founded investment decisions and turn buildings into active components of a modern, resilient energy infrastructure.

Focus on energy certificates

In his presentation, graduate Michael Haugeneder, Managing Director of ATP sustain GmbH, emphasised the interlinking of energy performance certificates and CO2 roadmaps: "While the energy performance certificate ensures the comparability of building qualities, the CO2 roadmap supports efficient, cost-effective operation with concrete measures - both together strengthen the risk management of properties. "This year's exchange of experts in networking was very inspiring and rewarding - the next TechTalk 2027 has already been reserved in my diary," says Haugeneder.

For more than 30 years, teaching and research at the Pinkafeld Study Centre has focused on topics relating to energy, the environment and buildings. Those interested can already register now to start their studies in autumn: www.hochschule-burgenland.at
