Getting you started in medical studies

The high success rate of 1:3 speaks in favour of attending the preparatory course at Burgenland University of Applied Sciences. One in three course participants passed the entrance exam for the medical degree programme last year.

High school graduates from Burgenland will once again receive free support during the Easter holidays and on school-free days in May and June in their preparation for the entrance test to study medicine. The courses take place at both study centres of the Burgenland University of Applied Sciences. This time, learning is also possible via a smartphone app.

Eisenstadt/Pinkafeld, 11 March 2025 - The preparatory course has enriched Burgenland's educational offerings for nine years now. At the same time, the programme helps to secure medical care in Burgenland in the future.

Preparatory course at Burgenland University of Applied Sciences increases chances of gaining a place at university

The demand for the coveted medical study places in Austria remains high. However, only one in eight applications across Austria actually ended in a place at university in 2024.For nine years now, the Burgenland University of Applied Sciences has been supporting Burgenland school pupils in preparing for the entrance test (MedAT-H) on behalf of the Burgenland Health Fund. "The success proves us right," says Erwin Gollner, initiator and head of the preparatory course at Burgenland University of Applied Sciences.

The success rate for graduates of the preparatory course at the University of Applied Sciences Burgenland was 1:3 in the previous year, meaning that almost one in three course participants was able to secure a place at university.

Pupils benefit from insider tips

Once again this year, the preparatory courses offered by the province in cooperation with Burgenland University of Applied Sciences are free of charge. Once again, current medical students who have already completed the course at Burgenland University of Applied Sciences will provide insider tips. One such student is Jan Zourek: "The preparation course at Burgenland University of Applied Sciences is a great way to prepare for the MedAT. The extensive practice materials in particular helped me with my preparation."

Highly qualified lecturers have designed a comprehensive course programme for the preparation courses. An interdisciplinary team from the fields of medicine, natural sciences, social sciences and psychology was put together by those responsible at Burgenland University of Applied Sciences.

Learning on the go and on smartphones

During the Easter holidays, teaching will take place on five days at the study centres of Burgenland University of Applied Sciences, with further online units being offered in May. The course concludes on 14 June with an online test simulation for optimal preparation for the MedAT-H.

New this year is the cooperation with www.MedBreaker.one, which enables course participants to use a smartphone app for learning on the go.
