Studying while working is not uncommon at the Burgenland University of Applied Sciences. The cooperation with Siemens AG Austria as part of a training-integrated degree programme is new. Students on the Bachelor's degree programme in Building and Energy Technology can complete a specialist training course in automation technology at Siemens at the same time, working on projects and being employed part-time.

Pinkafeld/Vienna, 24 March 2025: Siemens AG Austria and the Bachelor's degree programme in Building and Energy Technology at Burgenland University of Applied Sciences are entering into a cooperation in the field of integrated training for the first time. The cooperation enables subject-specific practical training at Siemens AG Austria on a part-time basis in the field of sustainable building technology and automation technology and at the same time a sound university degree in the part-time organisational form.

Studying at Austria's centre for building technology

For 30 years, Pinkafeld has been a centre of excellence for building services engineering. Experts in teaching as well as study and research opportunities at the cutting edge of technology make graduates nationally and internationally sought-after employees.

Collaboration with companies in the context of projects, excursions or even academic work is extremely important for us as a university in order to maintain a connection to current issues and needs in the sector. The co-operation with Siemens has a very special significance and we expect an exciting and enriching exchange with the students who take advantage of this great offer.

Cooperation in the interests of students

Siemens places a strong focus on the training and further education of its employees. Apprentices are taken on in the fields of electrical engineering and mechatronics. A new feature is the training-integrated degree programme, in which the company cooperates with several universities, including the Burgenland University of Applied Sciences. The programme has been very well received. "The cooperation with the Burgenland University of Applied Sciences is an important step for us as a company to train highly qualified specialists in building and energy technology. By working closely together, we combine academic knowledge with practical experience, creating real added value for both sides. Our trainees benefit from a sound university education and direct practical experience, while we as a company can promote talent at an early stage, absorb innovative impulses from science and continuously develop our expertise. This partnership not only strengthens our competitiveness, but also contributes to the further development of the entire industry," says Gerhard Zummer, Head of Siemens Professional Education.

Programme Director Werner Stutterecker emphasises the importance for students of being supported by their employer. "We have decades of experience with part-time study programmes. We have observed that support for students from their employer is essential for the success of their studies. If students receive support and understanding from their employer for the special challenges of part-time study, motivation and satisfaction increase. Siemens is an absolute model company in this respect."
