Students got to know the country, its people, its culture, its language and university life in Montenegro.
Eisenstadt, 11 August 2026. Thirty-three years after its foundation, the International Economic Relations degree programme remains true to its focus on Central and Eastern Europe. However, one mustn't read this as a sign of stagnation. With the first summer school in Bar, Montenegro, the organisers have this year broadened the scope for academic exchange. Both sides greatly appreciated this first opportunity to get to know one another. Plans are in place to continue this cooperation in the future.
We have a long-standing tradition of enabling our students to gain intensive linguistic, cultural and academic experience abroad during the summer months through our summer schools, whilst also learning about the economies of other countries.

Twenty-five students took part in the summer school in Bar. The programme included language lessons in Croatian and Russian, lectures with a regional focus and a crash course in Montenegrin, as well as discussions on Montenegrin culture and the economy. Excursions took the group to destinations including Cetinje, the historic capital of Montenegro, and the Lovćen Mountain and National Park. The students also had the opportunity to visit the European House and the Business Centre in the port town of Bar.
“I really enjoyed the summer school in Bar. I particularly liked the varied activities, the friendly atmosphere and the fact that I was able to improve my language skills. The seaside location was also lovely and made the stay even more enjoyable,” said student Elias Brodhagen.
The vast majority of students at Burgenland University of Applied Sciences are in employment. Those who were unable to take holiday leave for the summer school were given the opportunity to gain valuable experience through the ‘Internationalisation at home’ programme. The programme included not only intercultural workshops but also excursions, because – whether at home or abroad – the summer courses form part of the international degree programme.
