If you decide to pursue a career in the police, there are countless opportunities open to you, says Sabri Yorgun, and he should know.

After almost 10 years in the police force, he is now press spokesman for the Styrian police. He completed his bachelor's degree in Information, Media & Communication while working.

Basic training, police work, border patrol and now communications. This was the career path of Sabri Yorgun from southern Styria, who many of our readers have probably seen on TV since the terrible school-shooting in Graz. He always reported the latest news with aplomb.

Clarity, responsibility and precision are particularly important in safety communication. These skills were also cultivated during my studies.

He is very keen to utilise the opportunities offered by the media to inform the public.

Sabri Yorgun was interested in communication from an early age. "I wasn't the typical teenager, I've always read the newspaper, been interested in politics, read blogs and wrote them myself and, all in all, I really enjoyed writing and the media world."

He found the greatest overlap with his interests during his studies at the Burgenland University of Applied Sciences.

As well as giving me a really great insight into many different areas of the media world, the part-time organisation of the study programme was also the most compatible with my job.

Because: further training and higher qualifications are very much supported by the police as an employer and working hours are adapted for internal and external education.

As press spokesman, he is now responsible for the whole of Styria and is responsible for operational communication as well as crisis communication and media relations. A varied job in which level-headedness counts above all. However, behind the matter-of-fact language and professional demeanour, there is a human being and this is always noticeable in Sabri Yorgun's reports. Photos provided.
