Anna Fuhrmann is one of the most successful Jiu Jitsu athletes in the world.

Her greatest successes include gold in the European Championship and World Championship in 2023 and bronze in the World Championship in 2022. She is studying for a Bachelor's degree in physiotherapy at the University of Applied Sciences Burgenland . Combining training, competitions and studying is often not easy.

Anna Fuhrmann grew up with the sport. Her father was also a Jiu Jitsu world champion, runs the Jiu Jitsu Club Vila Vita Pannonia Wallern and is still her trainer. She has been competing since she was six years old. In 2012, she became part of the Austrian national team.

"I've always wanted to do this sport. My favourite thing about it was taking part in competitions," she says.

She graduated from a sports high school and completed a distance learning programme in fitness economics. Due to several injuries, she repeatedly came into contact with physiotherapists and was fascinated by their expertise.

I soon realised that I wanted to do this myself professionally. I really enjoy helping people.

Anna Fuhrmann, student at UAS Burgenland

She has been studying for a Bachelor's degree in physiotherapy at UAS Burgenland since autumn 2023. She has found almost every subject exciting so far. It is particularly challenging to combine training and studying, especially due to the physical distance between her place of study and the training facility. Whenever possible, she tries to commute from Pinkafeld to Wallern for training - the journey takes over 1.5 hours. On Sundays, there is also the national team training session in Vienna, which she also attends.

But Anna Fuhrmann is used to challenges. Her life's motto is: You can.
