Studying has changed my life
After fleeing to Austria, she initially worked as an artist in her own studio. She had already completed her master's degree in art in Iran. Later, the single mother decided to study social work at the Burgenland University of Applied Sciences.
"When I think back to my time in my home country today, I was actually already working unofficially as a social worker. In my youth, I brought food to people in need and thought that was social work back then. However, I always knew that I wanted to work with people," she explains.
After completing her studies, Ghazal Sadr now works at the Mörbisch Crisis Centre. The centre provides temporary care for children and young people when, for a variety of reasons, life in the family environment is not in their best interests. "The great thing about my work is that you can witness the positive development of the children and young people on a daily basis. That is very fulfilling. Working in a professional team is a valuable experience for me."
She describes her studies at Burgenland University of Applied Sciences as one of the best times of her life.

I had very competent and experienced lecturers who were also very demanding. I really appreciated the academic rigour and professional attitude. Studying Social Work at Burgenland University of Applied Sciences was one of the best decisions I ever made.

She dedicated her bachelor's thesis to non-Austrian women affected by poverty in the Austrian social system. She herself also experienced poverty directly in two phases of her life in Austria. She says: "Today I am at a point that I always believed I wanted to reach. The journey continues."
