Approximately 56 applicants are admitted to the Bachelor's degree programme in Social Work at the University of Applied Sciences Burgenland.

Round 1: Biography form and letter of motivation
Round 2: Admission interviews and online admission test at the University of Applied Sciences Burgenland (participation by invitation only!)
The aim is to offer a study place to those persons who complete the multi-stage admission procedure with the best results. The test procedures are based on the skills and competences required for the intended profession.
Deposit
After the binding allocation of a place, University of Applied Sciences Burgenland collects a deposit of € 350 from students to secure their place. This deposit is refunded to active students after the end of the first semester. If an applicant does not fulfil the admission requirements before the start of the programme (e.g. did not pass the resit of the school-leaving examination, did not pass the additional qualification examination, etc.), the deposit is also refunded. In all other cases, the deposit is forfeited.
Graduates of the Social Work degree programme work both as employees in public and private organisations and on a freelance basis in the social sector.
The following three professions are representative of many other career fields:
Social workers help people to overcome difficult life situations and strengthen their social, economic and psychological resources. They work with families, children, young people and adults to find solutions to problems such as poverty, addiction, violence or mental health issues. In child and youth welfare services, in schools or in work with adults in areas such as social security, probation services, support for the homeless and migration advice.
Social workers in the field of employment and education work topromote equal opportunities and inclusion in the labour market and the education sector. They support people with career guidance or in overcoming barriers to education. In job centres, educational institutions or social services, they work closely with service users to draw up individual support plans that facilitate access to training and work.
Clinical social workers supportpeople in hospitals, clinics and rehabilitation centres in coping with illness and health challenges. They work closely with patients and their families to address psychosocial issues, build support networks and organise seamless aftercare. Their aim is to promote patients’ well-being and ensure their social inclusion.
Social work with families and children
takes place in child protection services such as child and youth welfare services or socio-educational institutions, in family counselling centres, nurseries, schools, hospitals, family centres, or in counselling and protection centres for women affected by violence and their children. Here, social workers support families in crisis situations, protect and promote the development of children and young people, and guide them on their journey towards a stable life.
Social work in the field of education and employment
in schools, vocational training centres, job centres, educational and integration projects, as well as invocational rehabilitation. Social workers support inclusion in the labour market, offer help with educational planning and support people facing professional and social challenges.
Social work in teaching and research
at universities and research institutes, where they pass on their specialist knowledge to future professionals and further develop the profession through academic research. They address topics such as human rights, inequality, exclusion and inclusion, social policy, theories and methods of social work, as well as innovative approaches in practice.
