The diversions was my goal - Sarah Hipfinger on having the courage to take plan B

"Theory is not just taught here, but lived - with a real connection to practice."
Sarah Hipfinger, graduate of the Master's programme in Business Process Engineering and Management
She was particularly influenced by the content relating to agile project management, IT architecture management and hyperautomation - including a practical project that demanded a high level of personal responsibility. A workshop on the topic of Scrum, in which a children's book was created in agile teams, remains in her memory to this day. "I already had experience in agile working, but this change of perspective was refreshing and very instructive."
Studying while working was no walk in the park: "Procrastination was not an option," says Sarah with a smile. Changing jobs from REWE International to Austrian Post during her studies was one of her biggest challenges - and also an opportunity. In her role at Austrian Post, she was able to apply what she had learnt directly and get involved in exciting projects.
Today, Sarah is responsible for product management for transport logistics at Austrian Post throughout Austria - a role that fulfils her: "I love the variety and the cooperation with the regions. It's nice to see that my work makes a real difference."
Her biggest gain from her studies? The personal contacts.
"The lecturers gave me the motivation to complete the programme. And a strong network has developed among us students."
Sarah Hipfinger, graduate of the Master's programme in Business Process Engineering and Management
A network that she still maintains today - for example at the alumni club of Burgenland University of Applied Sciences.
Her advice to young people: " Have the courage. Many people don't know exactly where they're heading in life. But it's important to recognise your own worth."
Sarah Hipfinger's career shows that it is precisely detours that make life special - if you are prepared to keep an open mind, face challenges and believe passionately in your own goals. History buffs will know: It took Odysseus a whole ten years to find his way back to his kingdom of Ithaca after the fall of Troy. His wanderings through a world full of dangers and uncertainties were anything but wasted time - because without them, he would not be the legendary hero we know him as today.
